In a few weeks, Myrtle Beach Video Network will launch a ROKU channel. When that happens, the big winner just night be a tiny radio station located 25 miles from Myrtle Beach. Banana Jack Murphy purchased WLSC AM 1240 in 2007. The station also known as Tiger Radio broadcasts a 1,000 watt signal from Loris, SC. The station can be heard in Myrtle Beach, but the signal is not as strong as others in the market. This setback only inspired the owner to change his business plan.
"I'm no fool. I know there are limitations with a 1,000 watt AM signal. That's why I've been so aggressive in implementing new media strategies. Streaming audio and video on our website has allowed us to reach more listeners. We were also one of the first stations in the country to activate AudioNow technology, so listeners can simply dial a number and listen to the station, but you ain't seen nothing yet.", says an excited Banana Jack Murphy. He adds, "I have already taken steps to broadcast video from our radio studios. We've had success in doing that with Ustream, but being able to promote WLSC on Roku is a game changer. To the best of my knowledge, over 1.5 million Roku devices have been sold. I want those folks to know about my station."
Murphy plans on broadcasting his weekday morning radio show live on Myrtle Beach Video Network by the end of the year. In the meantime, ROKU owners can listen to the station by subscribing to the Tune In Channel. Tiger Radio WLSC is among those stations featured on the popular web based streaming portal. Tune In is a free channel on ROKU. Listeners can also download an app to their smartphones to access WLSC Tiger Radio and other radio stations across the country.
Stay Tuned!
